Movie Review : James Bond (Agent James Bond) vs Mission Impossible (Agent Ethan Hunt)
Hello guys, for decades, James Bond and Mission Impossible's Ethan Hunt have dominated the box office while placing glamour in the world of international espionage.
Be it an impossible mission or a liaison with a "Bond Girls", Bond and Hunt have the collective attention of the action audience. But which of them is worthy of being the top spy? Using categories fit for espionage, let's determine how the two heavyweights of intelligence stack up to one another.
In one of the most vertigo-inducing scenes ever, Ethan Hunt climbs the window face of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building at just over 2,700 feet, using a set of adhesive gloves.
And just to up the tension, he's forced to go the last dozen or so floors with one of them malfunctioning. Not only is the teach on this one advanced, but the physical fitness required to use them is beyond impressive.
One gadget Bond always has with him is a stellar car stuffed to the gills with features to help take down the bad guys. From submarine capabilities to full-on cloaking options, Bond's cars not only pack a punch but also look good doing it. He might not need muscles of steel to use his vehicles, but what viewer doesn't want a Bond car sitting in their garage?
The Mission Impossible theme song has plenty of tension, but it lacks some longevity it might have garnered if it had kept the feel created by the original jazz Orchestra.
Admittedly, changing the theme to match Mission Impossible's cutting-edge flavor is the right choice thematically.
Unfortunately, it grows old much faster. Bond, on the other hand, not only has a theme that will live on as long as the spy himself, but it also carries at the class and power having a full orchestra.
Even after 40 years, it still conveys suave action.
Playing a world class spy is a grueling job, especially for actors like Cruise, who does his own stunt as Ethan Hunt. A real spy would require training iin martial arts, Combat and Parkour to have a chance against some of Hunt's skills.
But while Bond can legitimately kick butt, only two of the actors did their own stunts playing 007. That extra push of realism when starring into the face of the hero while he dangles precariously puts Hunt ahead of Bond here.
Both Hunt and Bond are as smooth with the ladies as they are with their spy tech, handling both with a skilled touch. And such a touch doesn't come without practice. Hunt romance colleagues, had a wife and kissed the enemy. Sometimes the distinction between one category and the others is blurred. But he seems a straight-arrow, shooting at only one woman at a time.
However, Bond takes this category with his overt womanizing. He flirts with the stranger at the bar, romances the enemy and seduces the ladies. And then there's the "Bond Girl".
While both contenders have fantastic franchisees which deliver heart-racing action, there can only be one best spy.
Ethan Hunt tired his best to hold a candle to his counterpart, but it wasn't enough, making James Bond cinema's best spy. Hunt has a chance to catch up since he's only been at the elite espionage game for the last
27 years, but Bond doesn't look to be going away, either, making it an uphill battle.
